- The checklist of alien mammals of Belgium is a species checklist dataset published by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). It contains information on alien mammal species recorded in the wild in Belgium since 1976. Both established species and occasional records (casuals) are included, but with information on the degree of establishment of species following the unified invasion framework of Blackburn et al. (2011). The checklist is published here as a standardized Darwin Core Archive and includes for each (sub)species: the scientific name and classification (in the taxon core), the presence in Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region, year of first and last observation in Belgium, the degree of establishment and pathway(s) of introduction (in the distribution extension), coarse habitat information (in the species profile extension), and native range(s) (in the description extension). A reference (scientific, gray literature, online source) to this information is provided. Issues with the dataset can be reported at https://github.com/trias-project/alien-mammals-checklist/issues. We have released this dataset to the public domain under a Creative Commons Zero waiver. We would appreciate it if you follow the GBIF citation guidelines (https://www.gbif.org/citation-guidelines) when using the data. If you have any questions regarding this dataset, don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact information provided in the metadata or via https://twitter.com/trias_project. This dataset was published as open data for the TrIAS project (Tracking Invasive Alien Species http://trias-project.be, Vanderhoeven et al. 2017), with technical support provided by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). It is selected as one of the authoritative sources for the compilation of a unified and reproducible checklist of alien species in Belgium (GRIIS Belgium, Desmet et al. 2023).
- This dataset contains eDNA metabarcoding data of fish species detected in 30 locations in the Belgian Part of the North Sea (BPNS). The seawater samples were collected during two different field campaigns in September and November 2021. The fish species were identified using 12S eDNA metabarcoding. The dataset includes amplicon sequence variants and their associated metadata. Study extend: The construction of offshore wind farms may affect local soft-sediment fauna. Hence, an efficient monitoring technique is needed to monitor the potential effects on the marine ecosystem. Here, we assess whether eDNA metabarcoding is a suitable alternative to monitor fish and epibenthos biodiversity in these difficult to access marine habitats. Water sampling and trawl surveys were conducted in parallel in 12 coastal and 18 offshore sites, the latter located inside and outside two offshore wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea. project ID: Bioproject Accession - PRJNA1032405 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/1032405) [This dataset was processed using the GBIF eDNA converter tool.]
- This animal tracking dataset is derived from Stienen et al. (2023, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10055494), a deposit of Movebank study 2298738353. Data have been standardized to Darwin Core using the movepub R package and are downsampled to the first GPS position per hour. The original dataset description follows. LBBG_ADULT - Lesser black-backed gulls (Larus fuscus, Laridae) breeding in Belgium is a bird tracking dataset published by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). It contains animal tracking data collected by the LifeWatch GPS tracking network for large birds (http://lifewatch.be/en/gps-tracking-network-large-birds) for the project/study LBBG_ADULT, using trackers developed by Ornitela (https://www.ornitela.com). The study has been operational since 2022. In total 39 individuals of lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus) have been tagged in the breeding colony of Zeebrugge in Belgium, mainly to study their habitat use and migration behaviour. Data are automatically synced with Movebank and from there periodically archived on Zenodo (see https://github.com/inbo/bird-tracking). This dataset was collected using infrastructure provided by INBO and funded by Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) as part of the Belgian contribution to LifeWatch.
